3 Regiment at Woodbridge in May 2006
13th May 2006

3 Regiment deployed most of the units new Apache's alongside it's older Lynx during exercise 'Crimson Hurdle' in early May as a major test of it's readiness prior being declared operational on the new aircraft. Parked amongst the old HAS site at Woodbridge next to Rendlesham forest, the fine weather and late evening sunset made for some interesting shots. I was lucky enough to have one of these images published in the local East Anglian newspaper on the 20th of May.

Several Apache's were parked facing the fence and were ideal to photograph in the late sunshine.

Looking right down the nose. flying had finished for the day although the protective covers had - thankfully - yet to be added.

Sun starting to go over deepest Suffolk. A poor quality re-production of this shot was published in the local newspaper ten days later.

A little experiment with the sun through the rotor head - if only they had waited another half hour before putting a dirty great cover over the TADS in the nose!

Given the opportunity I had to try out all angles - sun through the blades was next.

A vibrant sky and sun behind the sinister image of a Apache was a shot I'd wanted ever since they appeared in the Suffolk skies and not one that can be obtained at Wattisham without access. Although not flying, these will do for the moment! 3 Regiment, any chance of setting it up..??!
