Ladder fitted, Sea Harrier awaits it's pilot 1200x800 ip22.jpg 2006-03-14 10:51:10 |
ZH812/005 is loaded with tanks and CAIM-120A training rounds 1200x800 ip21.jpg 2006-03-14 10:53:19 |

Four of the few remaining 801 NAS sea jets were to be used during the demonstration. 1200x800 ip11.jpg 2006-03-14 11:12:15 |
The Sea Harrier weapon of choice - the Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile, the AIM-120A. With the airframe going out of service it will now, I assume be passed onto the RAF for use on Tornado F3s. The F3 is now, supposedly fully AMRAAM capable although they still do not appear to carry the weapon unless on a photoshoot, QRA aircraft still use the obsolete Sky Flash for some unknown reason several years after it was released that the update programme was complete! 1200x800 IMG_3187.jpg 2006-03-14 11:33:37 |
Lt Chris Roy is the very last pilot to convert to the RN Sea Harrier. 800x1200 ip19.jpg 2006-03-14 11:34:08 |
First jet taxying to the active runway with the other three waiting. 1200x800 ip3.jpg 2006-03-14 11:44:46 |
With no 30mm Aden cannon's fitted on the fuselage the Sea Harrier has a unusual look to it. 1200x800 ip3.jpg 2006-03-14 11:45:27 |
801 NAS still had a USMC Harrier pilot on a exchange posting. 1200x800 IMG_3210.jpg 2006-03-14 11:46:33 |
Final jet rolling. 1200x800 ip5.jpg 2006-03-14 11:49:21 |
RN Jetstreams were also doing circuits. 1200x800 IMG_3231.jpg 2006-03-14 11:52:19 |
One of two remaining T.8s following the F/A.2s out. The day after these were taken one was due to be withdrawn. 1200x800 IMG_3239.jpg 2006-03-14 11:56:38 |
Sea Harriers are not the only jets operating from Yeovilton. Two RN Hawks taxi out behind the the SHARs 1200x800 ip18.jpg 2006-03-14 11:57:30 |
If I was going up in a Hawk I'd be pretty pleased as well! 1200x800 IMG_3251.jpg 2006-03-14 11:57:38 |
One of the two Hawks that, in turn, followed the T8 out 1200x800 IMG_3259.jpg 2006-03-14 11:59:24 |
Given the poor weather, the diamond four flypast was no doubt as difficult to fly as it was to get a decent photograph! 1200x800 IMG_3293.jpg 2006-03-14 12:24:38 |
Into the hover, and very close to the photographers. 1200x800 ip2.jpg 2006-03-14 12:26:28 |
This is loud enough from a distance at a airshow - even with ear defenders this close it's overwhelming! 1200x800 ip7.jpg 2006-03-14 12:27:12 |
Surely the best angle to photograph any Harrier, whatever the variant. 1200x800 ip10.jpg 2006-03-14 12:28:14 |
The best shot from the several hundred taken that morning. 1200x800 ip1.jpg 2006-03-14 12:28:41 |
002 starts it's roll for the ramp.... 1200x800 ip15.jpg 2006-03-14 12:30:09 |
....and is on it's way! 1200x800 IMG_3356.jpg 2006-03-14 12:30:11 |
After landing and backtracking for the ski-jump. 1200x800 IMG_3359.jpg 2006-03-14 12:30:50 |
Each of the four pilots took a turn. 1200x800 ip8.jpg 2006-03-14 12:33:08 |
Very impressive to see four Sea Harriers take the Yeovilton ski-jump at very close quarters so near to the squadrons demise. 1200x800 ip16.jpg 2006-03-14 12:33:09 |
Unlike some visits to some military airfields in the past, 801 at Yeovilton did not come up with endless health & safety rules. They just trusted the photographers to keep out of trouble - which everybody did. The navy certainly is the way to go. 1200x800 ip9.jpg 2006-03-14 12:37:26 |
Backtracking after landing for the ski-jump, 004 on the nose. 1200x800 IMG_3394.jpg 2006-03-14 12:38:14 |
The bow to the audience was a dead cert! 1200x800 ip12.jpg 2006-03-14 12:42:41 |
They really were rather close!!! 1200x800 ip14.jpg 2006-03-14 12:42:45 |
In the hover and moments from touchdown. 1200x800 IMG_3411.jpg 2006-03-14 12:42:54 |
Taxying in at the end of a superb hour of non-stop action playing to the photographers. 1200x800 ip13.jpg 2006-03-14 12:43:00 |
Four-fifths of the remaining SHAR pilots with 801 NAS. Only the boss is missing. Many thanks for such a enjoyable hour and its a shame that a year later 801 NAS has not reappeared as planned with GR7/9s. By now it seems likely the squadron will not reform whatever the 'plans' are! 1200x800 ip23.jpg 2006-03-14 12:49:12 |
