Not Wattisham but Marham. One of four Wattisham based Apaches that did overshoots at Marham during one friday.

A Tornado with real identity issues - just out of major servicing, the jet is showing markings for 9 Squadron at Marham, but displays a code for 15 Squadron at Lossiemouth.

Another 3 Regiment Apache at Marham. It seems Marham is a favourite of the Apache crews at Wattisham for approachs.

One of 39 Squadrons shrinking fleet of Canberra PR9s overflying the 24 approach. These are expected to be withdrawn in 2006.

13 squadron GR4 with the usual combination, of external tanks, AIM-9 rails, Sky Shadow and BOZ chaff pods. Two practise bomb carriers are on the fuselage stations.

Tornado's are gradually losing the black painted radome in favour of a grey scheme which I think is a improvement in their appearance.

Tornado GR4 showing markings for 617 sqn. Slightly out of date with the squadron insignia as 'The Dambusters' are based at Lossiemouth and this jet is flying with the Marham squadrons. Someday the RAF may, hopefully soon, have a majority of its jets in the correct markings!

During tight circuits you can get a good picture as the Tornado rolls out onto the final approach.

The final approach into the setting sun. This effect is natural and has not been edited into the image with photoshop. I discovered later on that the female student overheard on the radio was sent solo on gliders by a uncle who teachs at a RAF gliding school - prints were sent!

Marham Tornado returning in the last light of the day.

Taken on a awful late November afternoon during a snow storm, this Marham GR4 retains the markings it acquired during the Iraqi invasion of 2003.

Friday afternoon, its freezing and snowing but they're still flying (and I'm still out with the camera!), Tornado at Marham overshooting with a single engine in reheat.

First visit to Marham in 2006 and it's actually quite busy, all the more suprising when you consider it was the first day after Easter! GR4 partially marked for 2 Squadron.

Showing the rather subdued markings for 15 sqn at Lossiemouth, it looks like the usual mix up of airframes is still the rule.

'AF' appears to be coded for 9 sqn at Marham but lacks unit markings. The Sky Shadow ECM pod that was formally carried on the outboard station appears to have been replaced by twin BOZ chaff pods.

Just to prove me wrong, this one has full 9 Squadron markings (no code) and Sky Shadow.

Two GR4s on hold. The first plane in the flight had hit a bird upon departure and the remains where being cleared off the runway.

'DB' returning with a full load. As well as the usual tanks and BOZ/Sky Shadow stores, this jet has four ALARMs on the shoulder stations and twelve of the new Brimstone anti-armour missiles in four triples underneath. Despite years of delays, Brimstone is now entering service with 31 Squadron.

Another visit to Marham on a grey July day and more Tornado's are losing their markings. 'AF' is supposedly with 9 Squadron.

A little bit of sun crept through. This 2 Squadron jet was the first one I'd photographed at Marham with the new, dreaded coding system on the fin. The numbers are ok (although a silly waste of time/money as the aircraft already carry a airframe specific serial), but it's the planned removal of all squadron markings that is such a short sighted move, although like so many times recently, it probably won't last very long anyway.

Polish Navy M28 Bryza dropping in as it was in the UK for Waddington Airshow. Not as rare as you might think as one of these (usually always this one!) seems to attend every major UK airshow - many spotters don't believe it ever leaves the country!

Afternoon sortie, and '006' is flying again. Like the USAF F-15s at Lakenheath, Marham sems to select airframes for the days planned sorties and flys the same ones throughout the day (although, being Marham, not on anywhere the same scale!).

The backseater on the second jet was not RAF aircrew but a airman on a experience flight. I only know this because his brother was standing beside me photographing him!

'DO' (assuming 31 Squadron aircraft but hardly seems to apply nowadays!) is in the new lighter grey overall scheme and carries Paveway LGB and TIALD designation pod - pity the weather wasn't better.

This Tornado is fitted with one clean and one dirty drop tank.

"DF" is fitted with a TIALD pod on the centreline station and has its identity roughly marked on the fin.

This crew were rather wobbly on finals but sorted it out in time.

A long zoom is needed to catch the turn onto finals sometime.

NATO E-3A overshooting at RAF Marham during a friday lunchtime.

Straight down the Marham approach. This Sentry carried out several approachs at RAF bases during the day.

NATO operates 17 E-3As (the 18th was lost in a fatal accident) from Germany although they are deployed were needed throughout the member states.

The 'bump' on the fuselage side is a recent modification and contains sensors/radar equipment that is kept fairly quiet.

Not that I'm complaining, but NATO E-3s seem to like pulling circuit practise at Marham. They also like to pull them rather tight.

Unlike the RAF E-3s, neither NATO or USAF Sentrys are fitted with the modern CFM-56 turbofans and are rather smoky.

Belgian Air Force F-16AM returning to Marham one friday lunchtime. The pilot sounded American.

This was one of a pair detached to Marham for operations for the week.

ZA597 is on a airtest out of the Tornado Engineering Flight at Marham and shows the new, plain finish to GR4s. This jet used to carry full 617 "Dambuster" insigna - unfortunately a sign of the state of things nowadays.

When I first saw this I knew that things were now getting silly! "DA" now carrys a roughly applied code on the intake!

"BE" is one of two former 14 Sqn jets now with the Marham wing.

The light was starting to go.

I keep missing this jet, or find it in poor weather but finally caught it although the sun is down the nose - still waiting the perfect shot!
