Not Wattisham but Marham. One of four Wattisham based Apaches that did overshoots at Marham during one friday. 1200x800 IMG_1682.jpg 2005-11-18 11:44:42 |
A Tornado with real identity issues - just out of major servicing, the jet is showing markings for 9 Squadron at Marham, but displays a code for 15 Squadron at Lossiemouth. 1200x800 37.jpg 2005-11-18 11:55:42 |
Another 3 Regiment Apache at Marham. It seems Marham is a favourite of the Apache crews at Wattisham for approachs. 1200x800 IMG_1707.jpg 2005-11-18 12:11:21 |
One of 39 Squadrons shrinking fleet of Canberra PR9s overflying the 24 approach. These are expected to be withdrawn in 2006. 1200x800 38.jpg 2005-11-18 13:13:06 |
Same aircraft on the approach, displaying mission markings behind the canopy. 1200x800 39.jpg 2005-11-18 13:15:06 |
XH135 from the back on the way into Marham. 1200x800 IMG_1743.jpg 2005-11-18 13:15:11 |
13 squadron GR4 with the usual combination, of external tanks, AIM-9 rails, Sky Shadow and BOZ chaff pods. Two practise bomb carriers are on the fuselage stations. 1200x800 41.jpg 2005-11-18 13:41:34 |
Tornado's are gradually losing the black painted radome in favour of a grey scheme which I think is a improvement in their appearance. 1200x800 IMG_1757.jpg 2005-11-18 13:41:39 |
Tornado GR4 showing markings for 617 sqn. Slightly out of date with the squadron insignia as 'The Dambusters' are based at Lossiemouth and this jet is flying with the Marham squadrons. Someday the RAF may, hopefully soon, have a majority of its jets in the correct markings! 1200x800 40.jpg 2005-11-18 13:42:15 |
During tight circuits you can get a good picture as the Tornado rolls out onto the final approach. 1200x800 IMG_1770.jpg 2005-11-18 13:44:52 |
2 Squadron GR4A on the approach into Marham. 1200x800 41.jpg 2005-11-18 13:56:13 |
Student piloted Hawk from Valley turning onto the approach during the late afternoon...... 1200x800 42.jpg 2005-11-18 16:22:28 |
.....passing overhead.... 1200x800 IMG_1834.jpg 2005-11-18 16:22:29 |
..,,and into a late winter sky. 1200x800 IMG_1854.jpg 2005-11-18 16:38:58 |
Powering away into the sun for a few more circuits. 1200x800 45.jpg 2005-11-18 16:43:08 |
Over the top into a gorgeous sky. 1200x800 43.jpg 2005-11-18 16:45:52 |
The final approach into the setting sun. This effect is natural and has not been edited into the image with photoshop. I discovered later on that the female student overheard on the radio was sent solo on gliders by a uncle who teachs at a RAF gliding school - prints were sent! 1200x800 44.jpg 2005-11-18 16:45:55 |
Marham Tornado returning in the last light of the day. 1200x800 IMG_1908.jpg 2005-11-18 17:13:30 |
Taken on a awful late November afternoon during a snow storm, this Marham GR4 retains the markings it acquired during the Iraqi invasion of 2003. 1200x800 IMG_2041.jpg 2005-11-25 14:38:47 |
Friday afternoon, its freezing and snowing but they're still flying (and I'm still out with the camera!), Tornado at Marham overshooting with a single engine in reheat. 1200x800 IMG_2057.jpg 2005-11-25 16:09:17 |
First visit to Marham in 2006 and it's actually quite busy, all the more suprising when you consider it was the first day after Easter! GR4 partially marked for 2 Squadron. 1200x800 IMG_3906.jpg 2006-04-18 10:01:51 |
Taken from directly inline with the runway, a RAPTOR equipped Tornado lines up. 1200x800 IMG_3910.jpg 2006-04-18 10:02:09 |
Showing the rather subdued markings for 15 sqn at Lossiemouth, it looks like the usual mix up of airframes is still the rule. 1200x800 IMG_3924.jpg 2006-04-18 10:06:41 |
A very heavily loaded 'DB' from 31 sqn lining up. 1200x800 IMG_3939.jpg 2006-04-18 10:17:56 |
'AF' appears to be coded for 9 sqn at Marham but lacks unit markings. The Sky Shadow ECM pod that was formally carried on the outboard station appears to have been replaced by twin BOZ chaff pods. 1200x800 IMG_3953.jpg 2006-04-18 10:21:49 |
Just to prove me wrong, this one has full 9 Squadron markings (no code) and Sky Shadow. 1200x800 IMG_3960.jpg 2006-04-18 10:22:24 |
12 Squadron aircraft lining up with Brimstone on the centreline. 1200x800 IMG_3963.jpg 2006-04-18 10:24:16 |
Two GR4s on hold. The first plane in the flight had hit a bird upon departure and the remains where being cleared off the runway. 1200x800 IMG_3991.jpg 2006-04-18 11:20:09 |
Now rolling! 1200x800 IMG_3997.jpg 2006-04-18 11:24:44 |
'DB' returning with a full load. As well as the usual tanks and BOZ/Sky Shadow stores, this jet has four ALARMs on the shoulder stations and twelve of the new Brimstone anti-armour missiles in four triples underneath. Despite years of delays, Brimstone is now entering service with 31 Squadron. 1200x800 IMG_4023.jpg 2006-04-18 11:50:19 |
Same jet seconds later showing another angle of the ALARM and Brimstone configuration. 1200x800 IMG_4026.jpg 2006-04-18 11:50:21 |
Another visit to Marham on a grey July day and more Tornado's are losing their markings. 'AF' is supposedly with 9 Squadron. 1200x800 IMG_7660.jpg 2006-07-07 12:06:02 |
A little bit of sun crept through. This 2 Squadron jet was the first one I'd photographed at Marham with the new, dreaded coding system on the fin. The numbers are ok (although a silly waste of time/money as the aircraft already carry a airframe specific serial), but it's the planned removal of all squadron markings that is such a short sighted move, although like so many times recently, it probably won't last very long anyway. 1200x800 IMG_7682.jpg 2006-07-07 12:17:09 |
KC-135R from Mildenhall on a overshoot, one of two while I was there. 1200x800 IMG_7689.jpg 2006-07-07 12:19:39 |
Polish Navy M28 Bryza dropping in as it was in the UK for Waddington Airshow. Not as rare as you might think as one of these (usually always this one!) seems to attend every major UK airshow - many spotters don't believe it ever leaves the country! 1200x800 IMG_7705.jpg 2006-07-07 13:41:49 |
Afternoon sortie, and '006' is flying again. Like the USAF F-15s at Lakenheath, Marham sems to select airframes for the days planned sorties and flys the same ones throughout the day (although, being Marham, not on anywhere the same scale!). 1200x800 IMG_7710.jpg 2006-07-07 14:27:32 |
The backseater on the second jet was not RAF aircrew but a airman on a experience flight. I only know this because his brother was standing beside me photographing him! 1200x800 IMG_7714.jpg 2006-07-07 14:27:34 |
'DO' (assuming 31 Squadron aircraft but hardly seems to apply nowadays!) is in the new lighter grey overall scheme and carries Paveway LGB and TIALD designation pod - pity the weather wasn't better. 1200x800 IMG_7753.jpg 2006-07-07 15:16:57 |
Rather bright in the morning light. 1200x800 IMG_8251.jpg 2006-07-21 10:28:59 |
2 Sqn GR4A in the old colours on finals. 1200x800 IMG_8257.jpg 2006-07-21 10:29:00 |
This Tornado is fitted with one clean and one dirty drop tank. 1200x800 IMG_8268.jpg 2006-07-21 10:34:00 |
"DF" is fitted with a TIALD pod on the centreline station and has its identity roughly marked on the fin. 1200x800 IMG_8278.jpg 2006-07-21 11:46:00 |
This crew were rather wobbly on finals but sorted it out in time. 1200x800 IMG_8282.jpg 2006-07-21 11:58:00 |
Caught the top side strobe light on this one. 1200x800 IMG_8302.jpg 2006-07-21 12:40:30 |
A long zoom is needed to catch the turn onto finals sometime. 1200x800 IMG_8321.jpg 2006-07-21 12:52:34 |
NATO E-3A overshooting at RAF Marham during a friday lunchtime. 1200x800 IMG_8347.jpg 2006-07-21 12:58:38 |
Straight down the Marham approach. This Sentry carried out several approachs at RAF bases during the day. 1200x800 IMG_8366.jpg 2006-07-21 13:11:37 |
NATO operates 17 E-3As (the 18th was lost in a fatal accident) from Germany although they are deployed were needed throughout the member states. 1200x800 IMG_8381.jpg 2006-07-21 13:16:33 |
The 'bump' on the fuselage side is a recent modification and contains sensors/radar equipment that is kept fairly quiet. 1200x800 IMG_8385.jpg 2006-07-21 13:20:35 |
14 Sqn jet on the overshoot. 1200x800 IMG_1655.jpg 2006-10-13 11:45:00 |
Not sure which Tornado, but a GR4 passing right over the main road that runs beside Marham. 1200x800 IMG_1667.jpg 2006-10-13 11:54:50 |
And from the rear showing a simulated single engine approach with one in afterburner. 1200x800 IMG_1669.jpg 2006-10-13 11:54:55 |
Not that I'm complaining, but NATO E-3s seem to like pulling circuit practise at Marham. They also like to pull them rather tight. 1200x800 IMG_1678.jpg 2006-10-13 12:08:19 |
Unlike the RAF E-3s, neither NATO or USAF Sentrys are fitted with the modern CFM-56 turbofans and are rather smoky. 1200x800 IMG_1680.jpg 2006-10-13 12:08:22 |
The light grey finish goes well in a bright sky. 1200x800 IMG_1696.jpg 2006-10-13 12:13:21 |
Belgian Air Force F-16AM returning to Marham one friday lunchtime. The pilot sounded American. 1200x800 IMG_1712.jpg 2006-10-13 12:21:38 |
This was one of a pair detached to Marham for operations for the week. 1200x800 IMG_1715.jpg 2006-10-13 12:21:39 |
ZA597 is on a airtest out of the Tornado Engineering Flight at Marham and shows the new, plain finish to GR4s. This jet used to carry full 617 "Dambuster" insigna - unfortunately a sign of the state of things nowadays. 1200x800 IMG_1729.jpg 2006-10-13 12:47:57 |
A completely unmarked Tornado landing at Marham. I suppose it is, at least, clean. 1200x800 IMG_1752.jpg 2006-10-13 12:55:00 |
"FB" is carrying practise bomb carriers on the fuselage stations. 1200x800 IMG_1761.jpg 2006-10-13 13:28:25 |
When I first saw this I knew that things were now getting silly! "DA" now carrys a roughly applied code on the intake! 1200x800 IMG_1772.jpg 2006-10-13 13:30:14 |
"BE" is one of two former 14 Sqn jets now with the Marham wing. 1200x800 IMG_1792.jpg 2006-10-13 13:37:54 |
Another practise bomb/TIALD combo. 1200x800 IMG_1797.jpg 2006-10-13 14:19:58 |
Late afternoon with the sun down the runway and its time for a few down the nose shots. 1200x800 IMG_1832.jpg 2006-10-19 16:21:50 |
The light was starting to go. 1200x800 IMG_1834.jpg 2006-10-19 16:21:51 |
I keep missing this jet, or find it in poor weather but finally caught it although the sun is down the nose - still waiting the perfect shot! 1200x800 IMG_2408.jpg 2006-10-26 16:04:25 |
Sun glinting of the tail of the specially marked 31 Sqn jet. 1200x800 IMG_2436.jpg 2006-10-26 16:11:58 |
Pity he wasn't a few minutes earlier when the sun was still up, but "Monster 1" returns late to Marham. 800x1200 IMG_2500.jpg 2006-10-26 17:47:00 |
