The old and the new together over Duxford. This is the BBMF MkIIa which is the oldest flying Spitfire in the world.

Unfortunately, the overcast was at it's worst during the morning.

The first two Spitfire's taxying out along the Duxford crowdline. The flights Mk IX is leading.

Being tail draggers, the pilots will weave to either side they can see forward.

One of the two PR XIX's on the flight was next, BBMF Dakota is displaying in the background.

The remaining Fighters of the BBMF taxying out with the Lancaster bringing up the rear.

PZ865, a Hurricane MkIIc leads the flight out.

This was actually the very last Hurricane built and is currently wearing a night intruder colour scheme.

The other Hurricane with the BBMF shows the more usual day fighter colour scheme.

The taxiway at Duxford allows for some close shots as the aircraft taxi out.

I slowed the shutter down as slow as I thought possible to get some decent blur on the blades of the Lancaster.

The Lancaster is rather too large to allow a full frame shot as it taxies past. Looks more like a Manchester here!

As usual, the sun was missing so these side shots look a little faded despite some photoshop work.

The BBMF's modern style fighter pilot helmet look a bit 'odd' in a WWII fighter.

The Mk IIa retains it's 603 Sqn markings this year but has changed its aircraft code to 'L'.

The formation that was a first. The five Spitfires and two Hurricanes that are the seven current fighters with the BBMF in the air together.

Usually one or more of the Merlin powered fighters are down with the engines required by the Lancaster.

The Lancaster is not the easiest aircraft to photograph without direct sun, given its mainly black colour scheme. The new nose art can be seen here.
